About the Event

We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by Oliver Hutchings (Managing Director of Charles Taylor Marine), James Bean (Managing Director of The Standard Club UK) and Gyorgyi Gurban (Head of Projects Implementation at the International Maritime Organisation) to discuss "How does sustainability affect the Marine industry and what does it mean for those of us working in it?"

Sustainability is a broad topic which contains Social, Economic and Environmental factors.  Concerns about sustainability are clearly shaping our industry in an unprecedented way, and the aim of this presentation is to highlight some of the key issues, both present and future, which members of the Marine U35s Group need to be aware of.  Each of our presenters will provide their perspective on the ways in which companies in the Marine and Insurance industry are tackling issues of sustainability.  Oliver will begin by talking about the importance of training young people in the Maritime industry so that we do not face a skills shortage in the future.  James will then talk about some of the sustainability initiatives which the International Group of P&I Clubs and their members (who represent 90% of the world’s ocean-going tonnage) are currently involved with. Finally, Gyorgyi will look to the future by highlighting some of the regulatory changes and requirements which both shipowners and insurers will need to be aware of and prepare for.   All three presenters will then join to discuss questions or comments from the audience. We would like to encourage attendees to submit questions for our panel in advance of the presentation.  Please send all questions to peter.smith@standard-club.com.  Questions will be anonymised on request.   The seminar will be hosted on Microsoft Teams.  A link to the event will be sent the day before the presentation.
