About the Event

STS Crane Incidents and Business Interruption Claims

We are pleased to announce a talk on March 29th at 13:00pm (GMT) at the Lloyd’s Library for an in-person presentation

by Waves Group.

The presentation will provide an insight into a range of typical Ship to Shore (STS) Crane

incidents and suggest how a potential subsequent Business Interruption (BI) claim can be

approached.

As one of the major bottlenecks in the operation of container terminals, we shall briefly

explain why the loss of a crane can be so significant to terminal throughput, investigating the

range of possible damages and some of the different approaches to STS repair.

The presentation will then consider how the impact on the operation of a container terminal

can be assessed. We will look to show how readily available data can be used to predict the

potential scale of a BI claim and how it can be used to challenge the quantum of a potential

claim. We will finish by explaining the advantages of reviewing a detailed BI claim from the

operational perspective when contesting quantum.
