About the Event
As the world seeks to decarbonise and move to a greener and more sustainable future, the use of Lithium-Ion batteries as an energy and power source has increased. The batteries, used in hybrid and all-electric vehicles, are raising safety concerns on the stowage and transportation of these vehicles on ships as it relates to 'thermal runaway' where the batteries over-heat and start fires.
These fires once started, have proven to be very difficult to put out as water won't extinguish the flames making firefighting very difficult.
This webinar will look at the risks and hazards of transporting cargo containing lithium-ion batteries on ships, looking at firefighting techniques and containment measures used to control such fires.
